There are two main types of cucumbers - slicing (fresh eating) and pickling (tend to have more “warty” skin). Use burpless types (free from bitter skin) only for fresh eating; they will produce mushy pickles. Varieties listed as “dual-purpose” are not burpless.
Plant annuals to fill gaps in the flower bed or to replace plantings that have failed.
Space your plants to allow for air circulation. Moisture and high humidity favor the development of disease. Circulation around these plants will encourage rapid drying after a rain.
