By Joanne Bergman Murray County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, February 28. All five commissioners were present. Chad Benda became the Assessor of Murray County with his oath given early in the meeting. He was hired due to the resignation on December 31 of Marcy Barritt.

The Board accepted the $1000 donation from the Mur- County Historical Society towards a feasibility study authorized at the November 22, 2022 meeting of the Commissioners. The study will cover the wants and needs of the historical museum.

Jacob Gross, Realty Specialist, for the United States Department of the Interior, Fish & Wildlife Service presented a recently secured easement. The easement with Jack W. VonBokern is on 72.18 acres of grasslands and wet lands in Section 28, Shetek Township. This is a perpetual habitat easement not a purchase of the land. It is funded from the proceeds of duck stamp sales, not tax dollars. The owner of the land will retain control of access as it remains private land. No public hunting will be allowed. The land will continue to be taxed at the current rates so there will be no change of income to Murray County. The Commissioners did approve the easement after a period of questions and answers.

Human Resources Director Ronda Radke and County Administrator Carolyn Mc-Donald explained the March Madness activities planned for the employees during the week of March 13-17. Bingo, department activities, food and wellness competitions will be funded with Wellness dollars. Non-exempt employees will participate and be eligible for Four hours of PTO as a grand prize. The Commissioners gave their approval to the plans.

The meeting concluded with a review of the first three sections of the Employee Policy Book. There were clarifications and language changes with further comments and suggestions made by board members. The entire policy will be presented for approval when it is completed.
