APRIL REPORTS SHOW A PROFIT FOR MCMC

The Murray County Medical Center Board Meeting opened with William Wassenaar serving as Chair. The financial report showed a net income of $70,415 for the month of April. The total net income for the 2022 is $130,161. That amount is $25,000 over the previous year. While income is $600,000 over the past year it is offset by an increase of expenses totaling $72,000 above 2021.

CEO Luke Schryvers introduced two new employees to the Board. Brooklyne Boerboom is the new Clinic Manager. Amber Sorenson is the new Marketing Manager. Recruitment for a new provider has continued with phone interviews with a couple providers. There has been increased interest in the position lately.

Hospital Week was recently observed with various activities within the facility. Employees delivered Meals on Wheels. Employees continue to contribute to Jeans For Scholarships. The $2 contribution allows them to wear jeans to work on Friday with a scholarship given to a student graduating from MCC and another to a Fulda graduate.

The HVAC project is scheduled to start June 7 and to be completed by June 18. No surgeries are scheduled between those dates. There is a shortage of Omnipaque due to shutdowns in China. The contrast shortage is estimated to last into July. Sanford was able to supply MCMC with a limited supply. Other screening methods will be utilized when possible to alleviate the need for additional supplies. Covid cases have decreased with only six cases during the first week of May. Vaccine continues to be available at the clinic. The facility report has been completed with future maintenance projects and costs identified. The plan will make it easier to plan in the coming years.

Sanford representative Dale Gillogly described the $350 M Virtual Care Center to be constructed in the area of Fleet Farm in Sioux Falls. Brad Schipper will be the CEO of the facility. Virtual simulation and clinical services will be provided at the site.

The department reports all cited a learning process with the new EPIC systems recently installed. Respiratory has been very busy with an increase in patients. Staff is short following two retirements in January and no new hires following ads for the position listed since last fall. The Wound Clinic has seen 56 patient visits in April. The OR is busy with scopes and pain management patients.

Chairperson Wassenaar reported on the recent Foundation meeting. It was decided to continue the Golf Tournament again this year. Monies raised will be used to update outpatient rooms. The efforts of Darlene Mechtenberg have had employees maintaining the Healing Garden located between the buildings. The garden is open to the public for quiet meditation. Wassenaar expressed his thanks and those of the board to area veterans.
