The Minnesota School Boards Association has set February 21-25 as Minnesota School Board Recognition Week to build awareness and understanding of the vital function elected school board members play in our society. Murray County Central is joining other public school districts from across the state to celebrate School Board Recognition Week to honor local board members for their commitment to the communities that make up Murray County Central ISD #2169 and its students.

The Murray County Central Activities Department would like to recognize the 2021-2022 MCC Triple A Award winners. Ciera Tutt, daughter of Kerry and Lisa Tutt, has been selected as the female student-athlete and Dawson Blankenship, son of Dan and Kristie Blankenship, is the male student athlete.

Slayton City Council met on Monday, February 7th. The agenda with additions was approved and the meeting minutes from Jan. 18, 2022, were also approved. The claims were reviewed and approved for payment. Eric Pauli was present to give the Council an update on Xcel Energy.

The Murray County Board of Commissioners met in a lengthy session on February 2nd. Commissioner Molly Malone served as Chair with all members of the Board present for the meeting.

Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, announced the students named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester of the 2021-22 academic year. The Dean’s List recognizes full-time students who have a minimum of 12 credit hours with grade-point averages at 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale).

Thank you to the Cameron 4-H Club, they put together care packages for the Bus Drivers to thank them for all they do. Feb. 23rd is Bus Driver Appreciation Day. On Sunday, piano students each performed two solos by memory before the adjudicator, Mrs. Karen Olsen of Canby, to receive a rating score that accumulates year to year. This event is sponsored by the local music club, Successful Music Making. This music teachers’ club is an affiliate of the Minnesota Federation of Music Clubs and the National Federation of Music Clubs.

Answer: An icy bridge’s most dangerous threat is their element of surprise - they catch drivers off guard. Even though the main roadway may appear relatively safe, bridges, overpasses and exit and entrance ramps can be icy.
