MCC LOSES TO EDGERTON/SWC

The MCC Rebel softball team was in Edgerton on Tuesday night. The Flying Dutchmen lead the Red Rock Conference and currently don’t have a loss. The Rebels trailed Edg/SWC by one game due to their loss to them earlier this season. The Rebels were hoping to pull off the upset and pull even in the conference standings but it wasn’t to be.

The Creative Writing Awards Ceremony

The Creative Writing Awards Ceremony and reception was held on April 24, 2022, at SMSU in Marshall. Sixty-nine talented students entered the writing contest in the categories of poetry, fiction and non-fiction. The Creative Writing Contest is designed to encourage the love of language and writing for all students, as well as a way to recognize the talented young writers in southwest and west central Minnesota. SWWC Service Cooperative & Southwest Minnesota State University have partnered to make this event possible.

LAST CIVIL WAR SOLDIER BURIED IN MURRAY COUNTY TO BE HONORED ON APRIL 30

Private Edwin Wheeler, the last Civil War veteran buried in Murray County, will be honored in a ceremony at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the Slayton Cemetery on Highway 59 (1/4 mile north on Highway 59 on the east side.) The ceremony is open to the public, veterans, and Civil War history buffs. Any of Private Edwin Wheeler’s descendants are most cordially invited to attend as a VIP.

Water Quality-Focused Program Builds Upon CRP Contracts The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is announcing the signup period for its Clean Lakes, Estuaries, And Rivers initiative (CLEAR30) — a nationwide opportunity for certain landowners and agricultural producers currently implementing water quality practices through the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) to enroll in 30-year contracts, extending the lifespan and strengthening the benefits of important water quality practices on their land.
