Slayton City Council met on Monday, July 18th. All members were in attendance for the evening’s meeting. The agenda and meeting minutes from July 5th were approved. The claims were also reviewed and approved.

On Monday, June 20, 45 golfers hit the links at the Slayton Country Club, for G.O.L.F. XXIV (the 24th annual Great Outdoor Lutheran Fundraiser) in support of Shetek Lutheran Ministries. It was very hot and windy but that provided plenty of excuses for errant shots!! With the help of our golfers and sponsors we were able to raise over $5,000 for Shetek! Shetek is grateful for the many golfers who participated and the hole sponsors who support the ministry at Shetek. The Minnesota Twins will conduct a free Play Ball! Minnesota youth baseball clinic in Slayton, MN. The clinic will take place at Bicentennial Park and will feature two different sessions: 9:00 – 10:30 a.m., or 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. In the event of rain, the clinic will be relocated to Murray County Central High School. Presented by Great River Energy and hosted by Nobles Cooperative Electric, Play Ball! Minnesota youth clinics are for boys and girls ages 6-12. Participants are required to register for this free clinic at www.playballmn.com. Play Ball! Minnesota instructors will provide all the necessary equipment for the clinic; however, players should bring their gloves. The Play Ball! Minnesota Youth Clinics are available to participants and communities free of charge; funding is provided by the Twins Community Fund and Great River Energy. “For more than 60 years, Twins youth clinics have provided baseball instruction to young players in communities throughout Twins Territory,” said Kristin Rortvedt, Executive Director of the Twins Community Fund. “We’re proud to continue this tradition for a new generation of ballplayers.” Created in 1961 by longtime Twins scout Angelo Giuliani, the clinic program serves to promote baseball and softball to boys and girls throughout the region. Saturday August 13th will be the 27th Relay For Life event in Murray County. We will have entertainment by Tony Moger beginning at 4:45.

This summer the three parishes of Saints Ann, Columba and Mary in Slayton, Iona and Lake Wilson formed a group to bring exciting events to the communities. The hope is to have an event, planned by this group (if you belong to one of the three parishes you are invited to join in the planning), every other month starting in July.
