To the Editor: I’m extremely excited to be sending a letter to the editor about something I really care about, and that is the United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN). My wife Shana and I moved to Marshall in 1994 and raised two great kids Sadie Zahrbock Schaeffer and Simon Zahrbock, and we are proud to call this area HOME. I believe that I have a good grasp and understand the needs of my neighbors and I want to continue to help where I can. I, like many of you, want to help make this a better place to live today and into the future, so please join me in supporting UWSWMN in any way you can. Your support can change lives of neighbors, friends and our communities. UWSWMN continues to support local programs and activities that focus on health, education, financial stability, hunger, and safety/ well-being of its community members.

Slayton has been awarded a Sustainability Project Coordinator as part of a new Community Resilience Initiative of Climate Impact Corps. This AmeriCorps initiative, along with Community Forestry Initiative and Community Resilience Initiative, plan to place 100 members in Minnesota communities. They are trained to provide usable solutions – ranging from energysaving insights to tree planting – to communities and residents in need.

4-H youth from Murray County participated in the Minnesota 4-H State Horse show Sept. 16-19, 2022.

Question: I’m seeing more and more vehicles in Minnesota with dark tinted windows. I thought there was a law prohibiting dark tinted windows on both the driver and passenger windows but back windows can be dark. Unless the laws changed and I didn’t know. Thank you Answer: In Minnesota, you can have your windows tinted to a light transmittance of 50 percent, but not less. Light transmittance is the amount of light that is required to pass through both the window and the tint film. Before any tint material is applied to your windows, a vehicle comes from the factory with tint already inside the glass material. No window comes from the factory at 100 percent light transmittance. My experience has been that most vehicles are already at 75 percent before any modifications.

Homecoming 2022 came to an end on Friday night with the football game followed by the Dance and BonFire. The Rebels welcomed the Indians of Sleepy Eye Public High School as this year’s opponent. The MCC/F cross country team ran the football from Sleepy Eye’s home field to Slayton. The Rebels were looking to win the game that would complete a very productive week for MCC sports. The Rebels would win their fourth game of the season heading into the tough final three games of the year.

The MCC Rebel volleyball team continued on a winning path in Comfrey against the Mt. Lake Area/Comfrey Wolverines.
