By Crystal Reith The Murray County Pheasants Forever chapter was recognized with the Minnesota Pheasants Forever 2024 Chapter of the Year award at the annual Minnesota Pheasants Forever state convention. The Murray County chapter was selected because of their dedication to investing in wildlife habitat projects, willingness to embrace technology and ability to increase membership.

The Slayton City Council met on Tuesday, January 21st due to the Monday holiday. All members were present except Blake Heronimus – they approved the meeting minutes from January 6th and also the agenda for this week’s meeting.

Murray County Theatre will be presenting its one act play called “12 Angry Jurors” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan.

By Joanne Bergman The Murray County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. All five board members were present for this second meeting of the new year. Approval was given to the agenda, no conflicts of interest were identified and the commissioners’ warrants were reviewed. The next item of business was to close the meeting to hear an update from legal counsel on the CD 11 State Highway 30 issue. No comments were received from the board following the session.

On January 16th, Korean War Army Veteran, Sargeant, Arliss E. Hein, of Fulda, was presented with a Quilt of Valor, to honor, appreciate and thank him for his service; and to bring comfort, peace and healing. Drafted in 1952, Arliss served in the artillery tank division in Korea, until his honorable discharge, in 1954. Kerry Cassens and Paula Damena from “Pieces for Heroes, Quilt of Valor” were present. Kerry spoke about the QOV mission and purpose and shared about Arliss’s life and interests. Arliss’s children Colleen Bestge, Pam Berger, Randy Hein and other family members were also present.

GOOD NEWS By John Stenen A young man driving recklessly fast with a bumper sticker on his car which read, ‘Jesus Saves!’ was pulled over by an officer who said to him: “Your reckless speeding, and endangering the lives of innocent people and yourself is at variance with what is printed on your bumper; and it brings no honor to the One of whom your sticker speaks.” We have just elected a new President and Vice President of the United States. My prayer is that whether you love and respect them or not, that we would all unite as Americans and do as our Lord Jesus Christ admonishes us to do: - ‘Pray for our leaders that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life’.
